Resilience - re-entering the atmosphere

Resilience - re-entering the atmosphere

Canadian astronaut Bob Thirsk described feeling woozy and unbalanced returning to earth following his six months in space. Now ‘lockdown’ is not exactly outer space but as we emerge from our isolation, I’m experiencing a slight sense of unease. After weeks of looking forward to getting back to the ‘normal’ world again, now that it’s actually happening, I’m feeling a little unsure...tentative.

The new normal doesn’t feel like the old normal. Some little things feel weird like packing a face mask for the train journey, entering an empty carriage and packing some hand wipes...just in case!

There are a lot of “what ifs” circulating adding to an underlying sense of uncertainty. And there’s simply habit...maybe my COVID 19 routine has become comfortable?

Whatever it is...there are lots of considerations and they’re different for everyone.

So what can we do? I’m taking the view that it’s another transition, and with transition comes discomfort...and that it’s okay to feel uncomfortable. My old friend ‘resilience’ reminds me to accept what’s happening, take lessons from these transitions, and embrace and shape our next chapter.
